Over 4,000 Lakewood residents as well as over 1,000 Jackson residents are without power, after a transformer exploded at JCP&L’s substation on Faraday Street.
Lakewood Fire Department responded immediately to extinguish the fire.
A resident tells LNN that he was in the area when the transformer exploded. “The sound was a loud boom sounding like a bomb went off” he said.
JCP&L has arrived on scene to begin making repairs to their equipment.
JCP&L now says they expect to restore all power by 8:30pm.
UPDATE: Most power has been restored in Jackson. Close to 2,500 Lakewood residents remain without power. JCP&L now says they expect to restore power by 9:00pm.
UPDATE – 8:50pm: Over 1,300 Lakewood residents remain without power. JCP&L now says they expect to restore power by 11:30pm.
