Lakewood Township’s Zoning Board is scheduled on tonight to continue hearing an application to legalize the temporary Verizon tower installed last year in the JCP&L lot on Squankum Road.
If the board approves the application, the temporary trailer tower will be replaced by a permanent tower.
At the initial Zoning Board hearing, David Stern, Vice President of RF Engineering at V‑COMM, presented to the board that the trailer tower was temporarily installed during the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic at the request by Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles and Police Chief Greg Meyer to increase the capacity of Verizon in Lakewood as soon as possible because police mobile units were not working properly in the Squankum / County Line Road area, and there was concern that if this tower were not installed, at certain times of days, residents in the area would have had problems reaching 911.
The Zoning Board hearing will be held in-person at Lakewood’s municipal building, 231 3rd Street, beginning at 7:00pm. Members of the public will be given the opportunity to address the board in support or opposition to, the application.
