Man drowned, several rescued, after dangerous waves hit the Jersey Shore today

Sep 18, 2021 739 0 0

A 54 year old man is dead and over a dozen others were in distress and had to be rescued, after dangerous waves hit several beaches today across the Jersey shore.

The drowning incident happened in Brick township.

The 54-year-old man was spotted by two surfers who were able to keep his head above the water and brought him to the shore but unfortunately the man passed away in the hospital.

The Ocean county Sheriff asked beach-goers to stay safe on the beach this afternoon and said that the surf is extremely rough and several first responders have been out all day making multiple rescues.

Authorities in Toms River closed down several beaches citing dangerous conditions.

The National Weather Service warned about the risk of rip currents in the area due to tropical Storm Odette which is well offshore and will be moving away from the region.
