A general alarm was toned out Shabbos morning just before 9:00 am, to 1st Street right off Route 9.
Lakewood Fire Department arrived at the scene to a fully involved structure fire with smoke and flames shooting out of the second floor windows.
Dozens of firefighters worked for hours to bring the blaze under control leaving two apartments fully destroyed.
The fire was brought under control in about an hour.
Route 9 was closed in both directions during the fire.
Chasdei Hashem no injuries were reported.
Jackson and Point Pleasant fire departments were on scene providing mutual aid, while Brick Fire Department was providing coverage to the town during the fire.
This incident left two Lakewood families with all their belongings destroyed just two days before Yom Tov.

Unfortunately both families did not have renters insurance. Askanim are working on a campaign to bring awareness on the importance of having renters insurance, as tenants are NOT covered under the homeowners insurance policy.
