Several trees were reported on the roadway after a windy thunderstorm hit the Lakewood and surrounding areas.
Lighting strikes as well have been reported in different areas around town.
First, reports came in that a tree exploded after being hit by lightning on South Lake Drive and Gobar Way. The area looked like a mess while people driving by were seen on video helping clear the roadway.
Moments later the fire Department was dispatched to investigate a lightning strike at the Spirits liquor store on Route 9 and Kennedy Boulevard.
While investigating the lightning strike a loud explosion was heard from a transformer that exploded at the neighboring Shell gas station.
For 2000 JCP&L Lakewood customers are reportedly out of power due to the storm. If you are suffering from an outage call 1-888-LIGHTSS immediately to report it. Estimated restoration is currently set at 9:30 pm.
Motorists are being asked to use extreme question and to avoid travel if necessary.
