Ocean County is out to bid on a new major road reconstruction project, which includes a number of traffic improvements in Lakewood.
The contract includes reconstructing a portion of Locust Street (between New Hampshire Avenue and Vermont Avenue) with new curbs and ADA compliant curb ramps, new road pavement, and restriping the road with a center left-turning lane along this entire stretch of the road. New crosswalks and stop bars will also be striped along all intersecting roads.
The contract also includes reconstruction of North Hope Chapel Road between West County Line Road and Miller Road in Lakewood, and Cassville Road – Route 571 between West Veterans Highway – Route 528 and Francis Mills Bridge; and Cedar Swamp Road – Route 527 between Bennetts Mills Road and West Commodore Road in Jackson.
The project will replace the existing traffic signals at North Lake Drive / Hope Chapel Road and South Lake Drive / Hope Chapel Road for optimization and new right-turning arrows onto Hope Chapel Road. All existing striping and crosswalks will be replaced. Additionally, new guide lines will be striped to aid drivers who are turning left from North Lake Drive and South Lake Drive onto Hope Chapel Road.
The project is currently out to bid. The Ocean County Board of Commissioners is expected to award the project in November. Some road work may begin later this winter.
