State Senate President Stephen Sweeney today conceded defeat in his re-election race against a virtually unknown Republican challenger, an upset that has stunned New Jersey’s political world.
“The results of Tuesday’s election are in, all votes have been fairly counted, and I, of course, accept the results,” Sweeney said at the Statehouse today. “It has been an honor and a privilege to represent the people of the 3rd District in the state Senate and to serve as president of the state Senate. I am proud what we have been able to accomplish.”
