LPD: Man stabbed in downtown Lakewood leaves blood trail to crime scene

Dec 6, 2021 1453 0 2

Last evening at approximately 10:25 pm. Lakewood Police Officer Joseph Mandelbaum heard an unknown voice calling out to him as he was pulling into the parking lot of police headquarters off Third Street.

Upon exiting his patrol car, he located the man who stated that he had just been stabbed by an unknown black male but could not provide an exact location.

Officer Mandelbaum relayed the information to other area units while Officer Conner Woods, now on scene, provided first aid while waiting the arrival of emergency medical technicians from Lakewood EMS.

Officer Mark Gibson began checking the area to try and locate the suspect and/or a location where the stabbing took place. After several minutes, Officer Gibson located what he believed to be blood droplets on Third Street and began following them back to an alleyway near 245 Second Street.

Further investigation suggests that the victim, 54 year old Ruben Vazquez Jr. of Lakewood, may have been engaged in an illegal drug transaction when the stabbing took place.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Det. Patrick Kearns at 732-363-0200 ext. 5338
The suspect is described as a black male wearing all black clothing.

    Thats my father who was stabbed and it had nothing do with drugs. When it invloves hispanic/black people yall always jump to drugs. My father was leaving a bar and had to walk to the bus stop up the street to call for a cab. He was followed the minute he left the bar and was confronted at the bus stop. He fought the man off which resulted in him getting stabbed. Unless you know for sure what the circumstances are dont go assuming it eas drug related especially for a public report as such. To assume makes an ass of you and me.

    Since you are missing so many details;

    He was coming from a bar in a bad area, why chose that bar is probably personal preferance. But, being the area is bad, the cop that gave him first aid called it a drug deal. If in fact it was drug related, he’d would’ve been cuffed to the hospital bed and then transported to jail right after surgery. That didn’t happen, he was released to go home.
