LETTER: Do we live in a 3rd world country? Where are our elected officials?

Dec 21, 2021 1938 0 10

Dear LNN,

I was traveling this weekend through Newark, understandably it’s holiday season with increased travel so I left extra early, what I was greeted by was utter chaos, Terminal 1 in Newark (EWR) is under construction, that’s great news, but what about until then? From when I got in line until I got to the gate was an hour and half, I made my flight by mere minutes, now this was a domestic flight not an international flight which you need to give yourself extra time.

After waiting 45 minutes in line we were greeted by this sign estimated wait time under 50 minutes, I was thinking to myself, I traveled in the last few years over 50 times in 8 different countries, the only place so backwards is the “Groisa America”

Where are the politicians? Force the airport to take on more staff, bring in the national guard if there’s a shortage of personnel, over 10 on my flight whom arrived over an hour prior to the flight missed their flight.

Seriously is this America, where an airport looks like Afghanistan with lines a few blocks long?

– H.W. – Lakewood, NJ

Get a life. Anyone who has traveled in the last year + know to allow 2 hours at least from when you get to the first line until getting to the gate.

For international flight you need 2-3 hours,
For domestic nothing more than an hour,
I take people to the airport all day,
You have either been sleeping the past two years, or you’re just oblivious, America is becoming a third world country.
& for the letter, I guess it just caught on to you in the airport, lol it’s already problematic in a lot of fields.

It’s disaster in the airports. My son was traveling with a friend not on a holiday weekend. The friend was on a vent and medical equipment with his electric wheelchair. The TSA could really care less and they almost missed the flight. When they go to the gate the airline UNITED COULD NOT get a wheelchair for them to help the friend to his seat. They didn’t even offer the bulkhead which is assigned for disabled. My son and another person had to physically carry their friend on the vent down the aisle till they reached their assigned seats. If you are in need of a wheelchair in an airport today a) don’t travel alone b) get 3 hours early to the airport. It may take at least 1 hr to get one. C) remind the stewardess to message ahead to the arriving airport and hope there is wheelchair waiting. D) try to avoid connecting flights. You might miss it if the wheelchair service is delayed.

After all that, what happened?…did you proceed to fly in the sky?…in a chair?…like a Greek myth?…on a journey that would have taken months if travelled by your ancestors?… You are so delusional if you think the world owes you convenience.

I came to JFK 3 and half hours before my international flight, I was flying with delta, they changed lately that all Delta and Virgin flights flying that day check-in in 1 line, the line was as long as can be, literally hundreds of people, I came to the desk 1 hour and 1 minute before my flight, they told me you better check in within 30 seconds or you miss the flight, because they are closing the computer 1 hour before the flight, there was at least 30 people behind me that missed the flight, the plane was empty!
