Brian Flanagan, 43, Fire Chief of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company of Manchester, was involved in a serious crash while returning from a call. His vehicle veered off the road and became airborne, coming to rest after it struck a utility pole. The government-issue Chevy Tahoe clipped the electric wires, which fell on the fire truck that was following him, lightly damaging the exterior.
Flanagan was removed from the vehicle and flown immediately from the crash scene by helicopter across from Ridgeway Elementary School, to Jersey Shore Medical Center. A crane was called to free the vehicle from the tangle of wires.
Officials did not disclose what caused the crash, which remains under investigation.
