Dana Tormollan took to the podium and thanked the Toms River Council at this week’s meeting for their continued support of the Toms River Food Distribution. Tormollan and crew, which included kids from Toms River Regional, gave out 1,000 turkeys ahead of Thanksgiving at their Pop-the-trunk event last Friday.
The turkeys were donated by Fulfill and the distribution went from 8pm till 1am and Tormollan communicated the full feel of the event, saying “It was cold and those Turkeys were frozen.” Keeping the poultry is important, but she also described the lines waiting in the frigid temperatures extending out the door and down the block. “It’s heartbreaking, and it’s a reality check,” she effused, adding that she was grateful her own son was able to take part in the distribution aid. Her words describing the cold night certainty left the council with a warmer heart. The council thanked her for her dedication.
The kids who participated will all be getting letters for community service hours. “There was no way we could have handled it without the kids,” she said. The weekly Toms River food distribution has been helping feed families in the area for 2.5 years.
