Although the bulk of Lakewood Municipal Utilities Authority’s (MUA) water comes from municipally owned wells, we also purchase water from multiple providers to supplement our supply. Lakewood has traditionally purchased water from Brick MUA and NJAW.
In 2023, we will only be supplementing our water supply with NJAW and will be discontinuing the regular supply agreement with Brick MUA. Although the water quality from the Brick MUA remains in compliance with state mandated quality standards, the quality of water coming from NJAW was better, specifically with respect to recently mandated PFAS levels. Emergency water supply agreements with Brick remain unaffected. Lakewood is also in the midst of building its own PFAS treatment centers, as reported earlier.
