Lakewood Township has installed a new dock on Lake Carasaljo, near Forest Avenue. The project is nearly complete, and the township has authorized a resolution soliciting proposals for a vendor to run boat rentals on the lake.

The old dock had fallen into a state of extensive disrepair, and was unserviceable. This past summer, boating was closed at the dock, due to the instability of the structure. At a November meeting, committee approved purchase and installation of a new floating dock.

The purchase is from Sourcewell, a provider that sells at the special state-approved low rate, and a bid is not required. The actual dock is made by EZ Dock of New Jersey. The purchase price is not listed, but will did exceed $984,532.10.

The township is required by law to solicit bids to operate the boat rental on the lake, because it is public property. However, the existing proprietor fully intends to continue running the business, and the township is pleased to continue it as well.

The winning bid will be selected on February 15th and will be valid for five years.

The existing playground on North Lake Drive, near the dock, is also undergoing a complete rebuild, and is expected to be complete soon.
