According to a 911 call obtained through an OPRA request, a witness called 911 to report that they had seen a man dressed entirely in black firing gunshots into the driver's side of a white vehicle on the night that Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour was killed. The witness then reported that the man fled the scene on foot, and told police that the person in the driver's seat of the white vehicle was likely deceased. The 911 caller also reported hearing gunshots in the area of Samuel Circle at around 7:22 p.m. on February 1st. Despite a request for police reports and body camera footage, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office declined to release this information due to the ongoing investigation.

The witness who made the 911 call regarding the shooting that resulted in the death of Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour reported that they were too far away to describe the shooter, but that the shooter was wearing all black and fled on foot while the white car crashed into two other vehicles. The witness also noted that police were arriving on the scene. The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office released nine other 911 calls that offered additional details about the incident, with none of the callers realizing that it was the councilwoman who had been killed. All the callers reported hearing gunshots in the area of the Camelot at La Mer apartment complex in the Parlin section of Sayreville, with one witness reporting eight gunshots and his wife spotting someone running who was wearing all black. Several callers also reported seeing Dwumfour's white SUV crashing into another vehicle. The dispatcher notified all the callers that police were on their way or already in the area. To date, no suspects or motives have been announced and no arrests have been made.
