Police seized over a dozen rabbits from the shed of a Toms River resident yesterday after animal control relayed information they had received about a dysfunctional pet hoarding situation at the property. Details about the nature of the rabbits' unsuitable living conditions are still emerging, but some inkling can be gleaned from the presence of the Berkeley Hazmat Team at the site.

Toms River Humane Law Enforcement officers counted 22 rabbits in total at the shed. Most of these were taken, though a few escaped. They were described by Dave Matthews, manager of the Toms River animal shelter, as being in "rough shape" and are being cared for there by staff. No charges have been filed in the incident.
