Palestinian-American Jersey City man Moath Hamzeh says he was the victim of a hate crime, when he attacked by a mob shouting racial slurs and calling him "terrorist" and "Amalek."
Hamzeh, who's Instagram account is filled with Hamas talking points, including accusing Israel of genocide, inventing evidence, and "planning another Holocaust," displayed his wounds on Instagram. The post joins a long list of posts jeering at Israel, making false claims about Israeli operations, and leveling icendiary accusations.
Hamzeh's story is backed by Jersey City Ward D Council Member Yousef Saleh, who said, "I have no reason to doubt his account.” local officials were quick to assume the attack was a hate crime, issuing condemnations and calls against anti-Muslim hate.
But police made an arrest in the case, and the identity of the subject does not jive with Hamzeh's story.
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop says police have arrested Fadel Abdallah, a 31 year old Bergen County resident, and charged him with aggravated assault. The case is NOT being treated as a hate crime, based on the arrest, despite Hamzeh's claims.
